Why The Fed Raises Or Cuts Rates
Not financial advice. For satirical purposes only.
Picture the American economy as a 6'4" dude named Randy who just did three lines off a stripper’s ass in a Motel 6 outside Charleston.
When Randy’s too jacked up — prices screaming, rent looking like a ransom note, your grocery bill giving you PTSD — the Fed walks in wearing a gray suit and the emotional range of a parking meter.
They raise rates.
Suddenly every loan officer grows a second set of teeth. Your credit card starts charging you like it’s got a gambling problem. Mortgages get so expensive people start considering polyamory just to split the rent. Businesses stop expanding and start laying people off with the tenderness of a chainsaw. Randy’s boner for spending collapses like a cheap tent in a hurricane.
That’s a rate hike. It’s the financial equivalent of dumping a bucket of ice water on a guy mid-thrust and then charging him for the water.
Now flip it.
Randy’s on the floor of the same Motel 6, staring at a ceiling stain that looks like Nixon, muttering that nobody wants him anymore. Stores are empty. Hiring signs are gathering dust. The whole country feels like the morning after a wedding that went nuclear.
Fed slides in, loosens the tie, and starts buying rounds. Rates drop. Money gets cheap again. People who were one bounced check from living in their car suddenly decide they need a boat. Companies start hiring interns just to have someone to yell at. Randy sits up, blinks, and reaches for his wallet like it’s a life raft.
That’s a rate cut. It’s the economy’s version of slipping a Viagra into the punch bowl and hoping nobody notices the aftertaste.
The whole game is simple:
Too many people fucking the future → raise rates. Too many people crying in the fetal position → cut rates.
Everything else is just a press conference and a guy named Kevin trying to sound like he invented gravity.
